How green is your car?

How Green Is Your Car? is a new website containing evironmental information about every car currently on sale in the UK. Launched at the Conservative Party Conference by Shadow Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, the website is a 'must visit' location for drivers looking to find out more about the impact their cars will have on the environment. During a debate on the environment at the Conference, Chris said "It contains the league tables that the Government will not publish. "I discovered a few weeks ago that the Government had asked the Energy Saving Trust to produce a set of green car league tables. To my amazement I was told that Ministers had refused to publish that information. So, as part of our green cars strategy, we're going to do it ourselves.

What can I do at How Green Is Your Car?

Calculate the CO2 levels for any car currently on sale in the UK

View the top 5 vehicles in any particular class with the lowest CO2 levels

Conservatives appoint new company to run its conferences

The Conservative Party has hired newly formed events agency Fingerprint Events Ltd to manage Spring Forum and Annual Party Conferences.

Fingerprint Events were awarded the prestigious contract after an extensive review by the Conservatives. Discussions were held with a number of events agencies, but the model proposed by Fingerprint Events matched the Conservatives’ needs perfectly.

Fingerprint Events has been set up by three siblings all with event management or political event experience. Shama Hussain was formally with events agency Octopus for over 6 years and worked with many leading blue chip companies, winning numerous industry awards in the process. Azahar Hussain was a former Conservative Agent, who went on to working for a marketing department at Fidelity Investments in the US. Most recently he worked on the marketing side of the Conservative Party events at conference. Farzana Hussain was former Head of Accreditation for the Party’s events until 2002.

Shama Hussain, Director said: "Fingerprint Events is honoured to be awarded the contract for the Conservative Party events. We are delighted to be working for David Cameron’s party. This is such an exciting time to be involved in politics anyway and even more so from an events perspective. We are looking at working with the party very closely, to ensure that all its needs are met, and the events that we carry out will be at the forefront of the political calendar over the next few years."

Robert Ashman, Head of Conference at the Conservatives said: "2006 has been a turning point for the Party in many ways - leadership, polls and even a new logo and this momentum is set to continue. The change in events agency is to inject creativity, new practices and efficiency to the Party’s live events. We are delighted with the selection and look forward to working with the team at Fingerprint."

Fingerprint Events has taken on responsibility for the forthcoming Spring Forum event, in Nottingham in March 2007.

New Year Message from David Cameron

(Above) David Cameron in Coventry

It has been a busy year.

Since I became leader of the Conservative Party, we have been mapping a new direction for this country, based on the principle of social responsibility.

Be it in protecting our environment, tackling crime or improving our public services, social responsibility means realising we are all in this together. That is individuals, parents, local communities and businesses all have a vital part to play. But I know that government has important responsibility too.

That is why, in recent weeks, we have been setting out our plans in three crucial areas. In education, we have pledged to put the basics back into schooling, so that every child grows up knowing how to read, write and count properly.

On the issue of social justice, we have made clear that we believe family breakdown lies at the heart of this country’s most pressing problems. That is why I have said that there is a simple test for each one of my policies: does it make families stronger? And we have been looking at how we can make our country safer from terrorism by appointing a dedicated security minister.

Over the next year, you will see a lot more about exactly how we are going to change this country for the better in other areas such as the NHS, our local communities and the environment. For the holiday period, though, I am hoping to get a few days break with my family. I hope the same is true for you, and that all of you have a great Christmas and New Year.
